I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our families to a new school year. My name is Kristie Mitchell, and I am the principal here at Spirit Lake Elementary. I have been in the Lakeland School District for 25 years and know many of you already. I look forward to meeting everyone I don't know!
We are a small, rural, neighborhood school tucked in near beautiful Spirit Lake. Many of our children walk or ride bikes to school each day. We have an active and thriving Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) who work hard to help us support the students with fun activities while we carry out our mission of offering opportunities for high levels of learning. Our wonderful staff is committed to your child's education as well as their safety and emotional well-being.
Most of our students perform above the state average on all assessments, and for those who need a little more time, we are proud of a strong intervention program we offer for reading and math in grades K-6. We are a Schoolwide Title I school, and all of the staff collaborates regularly to look at student progress and discuss strategies to support all of our students with important and engaging activities.
We are fortunate to have many opportunities for learning here at Spirit Lake Elementary. The Idaho State Standards to which our teachers adhere are rigorous and prepare students for their future education. Computers are available in our computer labs as well as in classrooms to enhance education. Our PE and Music programs enrich our children's lives and build important skills. Our library is packed with books that our students love. We are proud to offer a stellar educational program to your children.
We are also proud of our focus on character development as it is woven into everything we do. Students set goals with their teachers to earn privileges as self managers. All of our staff encourages children through positive, preventative means to bring out the strengths of each individual. Students learn to HOWL at SLE! Have respect for everyone, Operate responsibly, Work to do your best, and Learn and play safely is our motto that reminds everyone in the school that as “Timberwolves,” we keep our “pack” safe and focused on learning.
Please take some time to familiarize yourself with our school. As principal here, I can assure you that should you visit, you will be impressed with the friendly, kid focused atmosphere we have. We are excited about teaching and supporting children to help provide a positive, memorable piece to their childhood. As adults, we are constantly learning ourselves in order to find the best ways to prepare your kids for the 21st century.
I would enjoy visiting with you if you have any questions about Spirit Lake Elementary! Thank you!
